Bullying
Has anyone ever made you feel like you are worthless or a waste of space? Have you ever cried in the bathroom because of someone else's words? If you answered yes, you have dealt with a bully somewhere in your life. A bully is someone who seek to harm, intimidate, or coerce someone who is vulnerable. They usually have a low level of emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically. They usually have a low self-esteem. Students that are bullied are around 2 to 9 times more likely to consider suicide than non-victims. Unfortunately, bullies are not something that will go extinct any time soon. We will always be faced with at least one but we can learn how to handle them. Here are some key tips that I've learned that helped me to not let a bully affect my life.
1. Kill them with kindness
I always try to be as nice as I can to a bully. In my opinion, hurting people hurt others. They are people who are still human after all and they need help. Maybe not a nice human, but still human
2. Block of their negativity
Every time I see a bully approaching me, I immediately get into a state of mind of "whatever they are going to say to me is just to hurt me and it is not a reflection of who I am".
3. Shake it off
The hardest thing to do is to ignore what the bully has said but if you know your worth and who you are, it becomes easier to shake off the hurtful words of a bully.
4. Forgive them
This is a hard one for me because you have to forgive someone who is not even sorry. You will never get an apology out of them so it is up to you to be the better person and forgive them and just know that karma will eventually catch up with them.
Fact is, bullies are a part of this already cruel world but YOU have the strength to handle the bully and be the amazing person you already are. 🌼
